In an era of smartphones, streaming video, and subscription movie services, what will happen to the old-fashioned night out at the movies?

Ty Burr has been a film critic for The Boston Globe since 2002.  Prior to that he was a senior writer and editor for Entertainment Weekly.  He began his career as an in-house “film evaluator” for HBO.  Ty regularly appears on such local and national media programs such as WBUR’s “Here and Now” and WGBH’s “Greater Boston.”  He is an adjunct professor in the Film and TV department of Boston University and a professor of the practice in the film department at Tufts University.  Ty is a member of the National Society of Film Critics and the Boston Society of Film Critics.  In 2017, he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Criticism.  A Dartmouth College graduate, Class of ’80, Ty lives in Newton with his wife Lori, Dartmouth College Class of ‘82. 

Ty Burr’s books include Gods Like Us: On Movie Stardom and Modern Fame, The 50 Movie Starter Kit: What You Need to Know if You Want to Know What You’re Talking About and The Best Old Movies for Families, A Guide to Watching Together.    

Charge for this Event: $15 per person
